Neck Pain - Horizon Chiropractic Center

neck pain

Neck pain is one of the primary reasons someone might feel a need to visit a chiropractor. When it comes to neck pain, our approach is very different.

Getting rid of the pain is not our main job; our primary focus is to figure out why you are in pain. Common treatments for neck pain include medications such as painkillers and muscle relaxers to numb the pain. Yes, that may help temporarily, but the root cause is still present. But, until it is identified and addressed, the pain will keep coming back over and over and over again.

Most often, we find that there are two main causes of neck pain.

First, the top two bones in the neck (the atlas & axis) are misaligned or not moving correctly.

Second, this misalignment causes nervous system interference or malfunction that hinders the body’s ability to adapt and heal.

If both of these things are present long enough, the result will likely be pain, or in other words, a signal going off in the body that something is wrong.

Suffering from neck pain at some point in your life is common. Let’s face it, life is hectic. However, the neck pain is usually minor for most people and will just go away after a few days. However, some people experience recurring and chronic neck pain that lingers, and doesn’t respond well to traditional chiropractic or physical therapy treatments.

It can be extremely uncomfortable or even debilitating at times.

In some cases, chronic neck pain may be associated with:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Frequent headaches
  • Limited range of motion
  • And tingling sensations in one or both arms and hands

Neck pain is a problem that does not generally fit well into the traditional medical system unless there is an easily identified source of the pain like a fractured or dislocated bone.

The pain-relieving and muscle relaxing medications often prescribed for general neck pain can certainly provide temporary relief from the discomfort but do little for long-term improvement.

Let’s face it. Chronic neck pain is a serious problem. It can be a difficult problem to treat, and can impact one’s relationships, work and family obligations, and finances.

But there are things we can do to help.

Some people with neck pain find that massage therapy, physical therapy, or general chiropractic care provide the improvement they were hoping for.

However, some people have a type of neck pain that requires a specialized approach that can identify and address the root of the problem in order to provide long-term resolution instead of temporary relief.
