My goal for 2021 is self-care. In fact, it’s my word for the year that I have chosen to focus on. Have you ever done that before? You know, where you pick a word to basically motivate you throughout the year as you work towards accomplishing any goals you set for yourself. I have done that a lot.
Past themes have included words like abundance, growth, certainty, etc. But this year I’m turning a little more inward and decided on SELF-CARE. And here’s why.
There’s an anonymous saying that goes like this:
“You can explore the universe looking for somebody who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and you will not find that person anywhere.”
Self-care, or putting yourself first is hard. If you’re at all like me you were raised to always give of yourself to others, to sacrifice your needs for those you care about and want to serve, and that being unselfish matters most. Now, don’t get me wrong. All of those things matter too and are important things to practice and do. But one thing I’ve learned in my life is that it most things in life aren’t necessarily that black and white.
Yes we need to be kind and help others, we at times need to make sacrifices for our kids/spouse/partner/friends, and need to be unselfish to help move past disagreements and arguments. But rarely are we taught, encouraged and reminded that our own needs, our wants and emotions, etc. matter equally as much. An endless cycle of ignoring ourselves and our needs for the good of others is a recipe for burnout and discouragement.
And I, for one, want to break that cycle. Want to join me?
Let me remind you that self-care is not just about pampering yourself and taking a bubble bath. It is about owning your personal power and honoring your self worth. A regular practice of self-care should be as routine as check ups at the doctor or dentist. Why? Because you matter. And I’d argue that you matter most!
To assist with the self-care theme for the year I am launching a self-care bingo challenge in the office. I will be posting on our Facebook page over the next few weeks 12 simple tasks or activities you can do to develop some self-care habits and rituals. By completing six of these activities you earn a bingo and I’ll give you a small prize. If you complete all 12 we are raffling off a huge gift basket full of self-care products and services.
I’ve created a bingo board but you’ve got to be on my email list to get it. So if this is something that resonates with you, send me a quick email at cameron@thehorizoncenter.com and I’ll get it to you ASAP!
In health and full of self-love,
Cameron

magnificent issues altogether, you just received a new reader.
My sister bookmarked this web publication for me and I have been going through it for the past several hrs. This is really going to help me and my friends for our class project. By the way, I like the way you write.
